Thich Nhat Hanh speaks about the art of flower arranging and how it can make clear to us the interconnectedness of all life. It is a beautiful choice, in my understanding, to look at life as an art of arranging flowers. To take good care of us and others. To understand that beauty is composed of stability, harmony and peace.
To see how non-duality, non-violence and non-discrimination are all possible to be experienced in the art of flower arranging and all other arts.
This full-length dharma talk starts with Thay reciting a poem, which is followed by solo singing in Vietnames. The actual dharma talk starts after 8 minutes.
Awareness
The eyes are a deep, deep ocean
with whirlpools and violent winds
and shadows beneath the surface
and sea monsters deep within.
My boat is sailing in mindfulness.
I vow to hold the pillar firmly,
so that I will not drown
in the ocean of form.
Using my conscious breath I guard my eyes
for my protection and for yours,
so that today continues to be a beautiful day
and tomorrow we will still have each other.
The ears in an ocean of sound,
the tongue in the ocean of taste
and the nose in the ocean of smell,
the body in the ocean of touch,
the mind in the ocean of dharmas.
